Posted on: July 15th, 2009 The Sound of Musings

Well, it’s been -5 cheeseburgers since my last post and I have learned through the guidance of my ever-capable Viking tour guide (Jens), that trains are made for traveling. And so, as I ride in the comfort of air conditioning through scenic countryside and towns that I can’t pronounce, I am overcome with a sense of peace that comes with an increasing amount of appreciation for the lack of blues music that I usually am forced to endure when riding with Klaus aka Satan (German version) in the van. During this time, my band mates, while in the van, will experience the challenge of convincing Klaus the importance of necessities such as eating and paying for the opportunity to relieve yourself at a gas station while trying to pee enough to get your money’s worth. After one last night in Germany, I am headed to Innsbruck, Austria. I feel a special kinship with the people there because I am from Austin, which shares several letters with Austria, therefore, we are forever linked.
At this time I have one final thing to say to all of you whom are reading this, so long, farewell, auf wiedersehen,  goodbye………MM

Auf baldiges Wiedersehen (see you again SOON !) in Deutschland… allthough we only share a few letters…. Your fans will be waiting. How about a pre-x-mas Tour in December ? I hope your tour through Germany was just as inspiring as it has been exhausting.

So the finger is cured ?

From your last blog, I sensed some depression that must have set it after being REPEATEDLY requested to play just one more! Regardless of the discomfort in your index finger and being the consummate pro that you are, you painstakingly followed through. Maybe next time, a loud NIEN may have been an acceptable response.

Apparently the absence of blaring blues, five cheeseburgers and some A/C were all that was needed to get you back on track! Sure wish I could be in Europe to see just one of your shows! Let’s hope that Austria lives up to all your expectations!

Looking forward to the next opportunity to see your show in our region!

You, my friend, are one Strange Ranger. Touring does stuff to your head, doesn’t it…

Ah yes. The hills will be alive alright!
Sounds like a restful day enjoying the ride and the scenery. It seems it didn’t take very far to begin lifting your spirits. If that isn’t enough, console yourself that Klaus didn’t bring the lederhosen&spandex rock puppet wardrobe. You’re gonna rock their Alpine world, Monte! Safe travels to you.

I have confidence that you can find your favorite things (cheeseburgers and BEER!) at a McDonald’s in Innsbruck. Then you will have the inspiration to climb every mountain to smell the edelweiss and say hello to the lonely goatherd until it is time to say so long, farewell to Austria.

Hahaha, as i am typing this response to your hilarity i caught a glimpse of my wrist. Since seeing my wrist just then I have come to the conclusion that they are extremely small. i can wrap my pinky to thumb around it. (try it) ….(you cant). Anyways that was really random but i went with it and i hypothesize it will make you smile.
    LOVE YOU

ps- no drugs were involved in this blog response.

    Monte,
I’m so glad you are away from the clutches of German Satan. Pay for Pee…no way! That’s just not right. I hope Austria treats you well brother. Rock their socks off over there!
    Love you,

    Hey Monte

Sorry you have had to endure a “Klaus” while in Germany. There is one other “Klaus” (yes, thats my real name) in Austin. Have a great time and enjoy, its still hot as hell here in Texas!

Pay-for-pee seems to be somewhat normal in Europe; I remember having to pay (or leave a tip for) the “loo lady” in a public toilet in London many years ago.

Have a safe trip home. AUS = AUSTRIA/AUSTIN FTW!!

Truth is: pay-for-pee had to be introduced (not at all stations, though) because those tourists just stop and pee way too often. Germans avoid stopping there. That’s why we have fast cars and few speed limits, since usually at your destination peeing is free. Actually, it would have been easy for the driver to stop at places where peeing is free had he wanted to so, but probably the band was just too vocal in their criticism about Klaus’ Blues CDs.
PS: Rumours say that for better authenticity Disney is considering to introduce pay-for-pee at toilets at the EPCOT’s “Germany” showcase.

Monte, You very funny guy. I love to hear and tell tales about toilets and other objects that you find in Europe. Ever have to pee real, real bad and when you finally find the correct door, you rush into the little stall and there is no place to sit down. Only a hole over which you have to squat or straddle. Please, that’s enough except when you walk out of that room and all the locals are pointing and laughing at you.
    Later,
Maggie (Mom) from Montiac World Headquarters at Banker Smith, Texas.
